"CocaCola and it's got a major announcement..."
"It will begin using real cane sugar in the United States."
This fall, Coca-Cola will debut a new Coke sweetened with American cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
President Trump, who has a diet coke button on the Resolute Desk, is celebrating the news.
"This will be a very good move by them, you'll see it's just better," he posted.
If you ask the Trump administration, including the Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,
they would say yes, this is a response to our Make America Healthy Again movement.
That being said, these are really trends that the industry has been following as well.
"This is a real bottle with the real product sweetened by cane sugar."
Coke CEO James Quincy showed off the new Coke on Fox Business.
"It'll be a little more costly to to manufacture."
The Coca-Cola you're used to is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup,
but now you have the option of drinking it with pure cane sugar, the way it's made in many other countries, including Mexico.
But does it taste different?
We went to the crossroads of the world, Time Square, to conduct our own taste test.
"I'm going to let you guys try the regular Coke and the Coke made with real sugar."
"See if you can taste the difference, okay?"
"First one is cane sugar and the second one's high fructose corn syrup."
And he is absolutely right.
Is cane sugar a healthier option?
And in terms of people thinking that it's a healthier choice, it's not.
It's going to be the same amount of sugar, right?
Meanwhile, Pepsi is launching a new prebiotic soda.
The 12 oz can will now have 5 grams of cane sugar with 3 grams of prebiotic fiber.
Good for gut health.
What it's actually giving is just more choice to the consumer.
It's giving them the chance to have the most amazing Pepsi taste they love, but also in a new format.
And that's why we feel this is going to appeal to those of us who grew up with cola and may have actually, you know, kind of changed our repertoire and trying new things,
but also to, you know, newer consumers who can come into cola for the first time.
The brand is releasing their prebiotic soda in two flavors, classic Pepsi and Cherry Vanilla.
Everyone loves cola.
The question is which cola is right for them.
