It's been 4,000 years since the woolly mammoth roamed the Earth.
But could this extinct species make a comeback?
Some scientists in Texas say they're working on it.
And they're going to use these little guys to do it.
Colossal Biosciences is a bioengineering company.
They say these woolly mice were created by gene editing
to give them similar traits to the mammoth.
They have noticeably longer, fluffier hair that can withstand the cold.
The mice were also given an accelerated fat metabolism.
Which are two things that helped the mammoth survive the last ice age.
The company says the woolly mammoth could return by 2028.
We'll have to see how that goes.
But if successful, scientists say they plan to bring back other extinct animals
like the dodo and the Tasmanian tiger.
