A museum has taken on the task of assembling a historic puzzle of sorts.
The New York State Museum in Albany has 600 pieces of a revolutionary war boat.
It was reportedly found at the World Trade Center site in Manhattan 15 years ago after sitting in a landfill for centuries.
Not only are workers trying to piece the physical boat back together, they're also trying to piece together its origins.
Our hypothesis is that it was built as a small gunboat.
There were 13 of them that were actually built in the summer of 1775...
in order to protect the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, and ultimately Philadelphia from incursions by the British.
Great care was taken with the pieces of the boat before it could be reassembled.
The museum says each of the 600 pieces was preserved in a special fluid for years.
Then the pieces were freeze-dried to remove any moisture.
Now that they can finally get to work, these historians are looking forward to unlocking the boat's secrets.
