Here's something you don't see every day.
Captain America, stranded.
His motorcycle broken down on the side of the highway.
Driving past the strange sight, a deputy sheriff turns around to help out.
I turned over and saw a motorcycle, looked like it was broken down and...
Captain America was standing next to it.
So I went down to the nearest exit, turned around, and came back to chat with him and see if he was okay.
The guy in the Captain America costume is 35-year-old Matt Gnojek.
His bike is kaput.
But when the deputy hears where Captain America is heading,
he decides to do more than just call a tow truck.
"I'm going to pay for it."
"No, no, no."
"It's Christmas time, and it's okay. Don't worry about that."
"But I can't in good conscience leave your bike here."
Captain America is stunned.
"Don't make me pull rank. I'm a captain."
So Deputy Zepeski paid $140 out of his own pocket for the tow.
Why?
Because Captain America visits sick kids at hospitals across the USA,
bringing them a little good cheer that only a superhero can offer.
"I can just envision all those kids' faces at the hospital there and how cool they think that would be."
In the movies, Captain America always saves the day.
But this time, he's the one who needed to be rescued.
"People get to see me with this red, white, and blue shield on my back,"
and they say, 'Oh, you're a hero for doing what you do.'
"And that's not what real sacrifice looks like."
"He was the real hero."
