Director David Lynch has died.
His family shared the news of his passing on Facebook, saying:
there's a big hole in the world now that he's no longer with us.
But as he would say, keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.
Variety reports Lynch suffered from empyema
and stated last year that he would not be able to leave his home to direct anymore.
Born in Montana, Lynch was reportedly drawn to the arts
and spent years as a painter before breaking into film making in the 1970s.
Lynch was best known for works such as the films Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive.
He also had success on the small screen with Twin Peaks.
His dark, surrealistic style of directing was considered revolutionary.
He even made an acting appearance in Steven Spielberg's 2022 movie The Fabelmans,
playing director John Ford.
"They tell me you want to be a picture maker."
"Yes, sir, I do."
"Why? This business..."
"It'll rip you apart."
He is survived by his wife and four children.
David Lynch was 78.
